United Nations rank “Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud” as a Global terrorist, a Taliban leader responsible for countless attacks in Pakistan.

NEW YORK: United Nations (UN) on Thursdays has designated Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud as a Global terrorist who lead Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP, a faction of Taliban responsible for countless suicide bombings and target killings in Pakistan.

As per the United Nations Security Council 1267, the Al-Qaida sanctions committee further included Mehsud to the list of Islamic State (ISIL), and Al-Qaida terrorists, a move that Pakistan wholeheartedly welcomes.

The announcement was made by the United States Department of State’s Bureau of Central and Southern Asian affairs, through the following Tweet:

Many outside of Pakistan did not know about the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP before the 2014 Army-run school attack in Pakistan, in which over 120 students were killed brutally. Pakistanis were aware of TTP before the attack on the school as well the TTP conducted numerous bombings and target killings already in the country.

However, since the brutality of the attack was aimed at school children, it was a night where international observers and people all across the world had trouble sleeping after hearing of what TTP was capable of doing.

Designation of TTP’s leader as a Global terrorist is a much welcoming move, a move that will further strengthen Pakistan-US relations, and help the Afghan peace plan to move ahead.
